Why doesnt my tampon slide in?

I started my period yesterday, and my mom told me its so much simpler with a tampon, but yesterday i was so terriefied to use one i cried, i tryed to use one today but when i barely just barely started to insert it it started hurting why is it so complicated to put one in and as soon as it kinda starts to it is difficult to actually keep going it feels uncomfortble and is so difficult fro me i wish i could just slide it in why cant i every one says it goes it so easy and fast and i have tried to not shuve but give it a little push and it hurts why does it hurt?!?!?!?1
